The Institute's mandate is to develop a national capacity and capability for the efficient and effective provision of scientific and technological information on demand for the benefit of research scientists, policy, decision makers, industrialists, etc. in appropriately packaged form for national development. One of the Institute’s operating objectives is to:

Support the promotion of an efficient research and development in the country through the provision of STI services using appropriate information processing and communication technologies.

These broad spectrum of objectives are undertaken by our seven(7) divisions ( Library and Documentation, Printing, Science Publishing, Thematic Mapping, Administration, Accounting, ICT. )
